August 15, 2008: SylvanSport GO Featured in NY Times

BRIAN ENDTER’S 30-day road trip this summer from his home in Bend, Ore., to his native lands of the Midwest unfolded like an American greatest-hits tour: national park campgrounds, stops in the Tetons, a visit to Old Faithful. His 6- and 4-year-old sons were ecstatic when a buffalo wandered through their Yellowstone campsite, and they relaxed in his dad’s cabin in northern Wisconsin. Good times. The funny thing was, the trip wouldn’t have happened but for one thing: a new trailer/tent hybrid called the SylvanSport Go.

August 12, 2008: Prince Manufacturing Announces Expansion

At a regularly scheduled Henderson County Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, August 12th, a job and investment expansion was announced for Prince Manufacturing.  The project\'s scope is a capital investment in machinery and equipment of $650,000 and the creation of 28 new jobs in addition to the current 100 employees.

Is the U.S. ready to flex its manufacturing muscle again?

Some analysts are pointing to several factors that could spark a resurgence in American manufacturing. One factor, of course, is the weak dollar which has already made U.S. products more price competitive in places where currencies are stronger. Last year, U.S. manufacturers exported $1 trillion in products – up 39% from 2002 levels. Exports are expected to climb to $1.1 trillion in 2008.

North Carolina has been named the fourth Best State for Business by Forbes.com. The ranking is based on six criteria: Business costs, labor supply, regulatory environment, economic climate, growth prospects and quality of life.

July 30, 2008: SylvanSport Wins Product Design Award

SylvanSport’s GO Mobile Adventure Gear has been named as a Gold Award winner in the 2008 International Design Excellence Award competition co-sponsored by Industrial Designers Society of America and BusinessWeek, the company announced.

July 21, 2008: Disney Institute Coming to Henderson County

Disney Institute is bringing its renowned professional development program, \"The Disney Keys to Excellence\" to Western North Carolina on Thursday, September 25.  Sponsored locally by Blue Ridge Community College, Wachovia Bank, and Times-News, the full-day event will give area professionals an opportunity to \"Experience the Business Behind the Magic\"- proven strategies and best practices that are easily adaptable to other organizations.

July 20, 2008: Henderson County Further Commits to Local Industry

On July 16, 2008 the Henderson County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to adopt a new Purchasing and Contracting Policy that allows preference to local vendors.  This policy further underlines Henderson County\'s commitment to seeing existing industry happy, healthy and growing.  Click on link above for the full policy statement.

July 10, 2008: Judge dismisses incentives lawsuit

The North Carolina Institute for Constitutional Law displays remarkable consistency in continually having their lawsuits dismissed in opposition to incentives.  The citizens, elected officials and judges of North Carolina also show remarkable consistency in support of using effective tools to retain and create quality jobs in North Carolina.

July 7, 2008: The Warm Company Considering Job and Investment Expansion

On Monday, July 7, 2008 the Henderson County Board of Commissioners held a public hearing to consider economic development assistance for the Warm Company.  The Board voted unanimously to extend 5 years of support through an annual incentive grant, based on capital investment and job creation estimates.

June 19, 2008: Prince Manufacturing Positioned for Job & Investment Growth

On Wednesday, June 18th a public hearing for Henderson County Board of Commissioners to consider economic development incentives for Prince Manufacturing was held.  The prospective expansion was summarized by the Henderson County Partnership for Economic Development as an internal machinery and equipment investment paired with the creation of new jobs.

June 18, 2008: Ferncliff Industrial Park Plan Unveiled

In a joint meeting of the Henderson County Board of Commissioners and Mills River Town Council, the Ferncliff Industrial Park Master Site Plan was unveiled.  The plan shows 221 acres of usable property which could be subdivided into as many as 12 parcels, or utilized for a single tenant.  The park offers attractive access to Interstate 26 via four-lane Highway 280 and heavy utility infrastructure.

June 11, 2008: ArvinMeritor Announces Expansion

ArvinMeritor announced plans today to invest $32.3 million in the Henderson County facility through 2012 and create 11 new jobs.  The announcement comes in the wake of significant consolidation and closure announcements over the past year.

June 10, 2008: North Carolina Chamber Outlines Importance of Manufacturing

The North Carolina Chamber of Commerce released a report on the importance of manufacturing.  On employment: North Carolina is the seventh-largest manufacturing state in the nation. Industry accounts for 29 percent of employment, or 1.2 million jobs, in North Carolina.  On the economy: Manufacturers, their suppliers and related businesses make up $140.6 billion in economic activity. Without manufacturing, the state\'s gross domestic product -- the measure of an economy\'s size -- would be $233.9 billion.

June 5, 2008: Kimberly-Clark donates 59 acres to the City of Hendersonville

The City of Hendersonville announced today the donation of 59 acres from Kimberly-Clark Berkeley Mills valued at over $1,700,000.  The property being donated is currently used for recreational purposes by mill employees and retirees, the community Babe Ruth league, and the YMCA.   The donation of this property to the City will help solidify the continued and permanent recreational use of this land to an even larger segment of the community and will expand the City’s plan to develop additional green space and offer recreational opportunities to the public.
